We arrived through the rain to Wells Cathedral to be met by two lovely smiling schools who threw themselves into the day. As we were working with only 50 children Anita and Myself ran the day and Mike had a well earned rest. However the involvement of the teachers more than made up for things and the teacher who played the Mill owner put on an Oscar winning performance.
We worked together all morning running the children through scenes in a Victorian Mill, Circus and on the streets of London and after a quick rehearsal of the finale song sent everybody off to lunch. Miranda the education officer for Wells cathedral went to check on the schools during the lunch break and was approached by one young pupil who exclaimed,
"I am so excited I am tingling all over."
This highlights the magic of the World To Rights day. Not only are the children challenged to find out more about child rights and be spokes-boys and girls for it, but through the excitement and re enactment of exploited children in Victorian times, they get caught up in the event and take part in something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
