Over the Easter weekend we packed a lot in. On Friday we visited Shalamar gardens with the family. They were built by the Moghal kings in the 13th. Century. They are basically beautiful gardens with a series of canal type channels which make a giant cross and which irrigate the gardens. Despite the 35-degree heat the grass was green and lush and in contrast to the hustle and bustle outside it was the most peaceful place on earth.
On Saturday we visited the Lahore zoo. I think there was more food and drink stalls than animals! However they do have White Tigers, which are my favourite. The peacock (see picture) was one of many rare species there. The day after we visited I read in the paper that wild street dogs had got into the pen and killed 28 of them. Perhaps the dogs should have a cage in the zoo too?
Easter day we went to the cathedral church in Lahore, where we were of course married three years ago. Bishop Malik preached and afterwards Zara took all the attention from us, as everyone wanted to say hello to her. We went back to the grave yard to put flowers on Irfana’s sister Shaista’s grave and it was amazing to see a grave yard so full of life and colour. Easter day is a time where Christians come to lay flowers on their loved ones grave and it really gave the image of new life and resurrection. I have made a Pakistan visit set on my flikr account where you can view what we have been up to. And I will continue to add pictures there.
